Aims and Objectives
- To explore the impact of changes in CQC inspections on dental practices, particularly within the Well-led KLOE.
- To discuss the Triangle of Success and its synergy with CQC requirements.
- To consider the Five Dysfunctions of a Team and the management of these issues.
- To explore ‘soft skills’ that would facilitate the management of dysfunctional teams.
- To assess the future and identify where individual practices need to make improvements to be compliant and successful.

11.15 - 12.45pm The Triangle of Success - Research has shown that business success is made up of three main components:-
Skills (30%) – eg Best practice, customer service, clinical, HR management, etc
Knowledge (15%) – eg Clinical, management, H and S, legislation, KPIs, oral cancer, etc.
Attitude (55%) – eg Communication, accountability, trust, commitment, motivation, integrity, openness, etc.
This section looks at how CQC inspection changes since April 2015 have led to more than a fifth of practices failing or having to make improvements under the well-led KLOE umbrella and other areas of work. Elements within the ‘attitude’ section of the Triangle of Success are synonymous with CQC inspectors’ inspection prompts for the well-led KLOE. It is, therefore, prudent to discuss how the Triangle of Success is synergistic with key elements that CQC are looking for within their inspections. The implementation of quality assurance measures not only supports robust compliance but also an executive management style leading to business success.

This section will look at the issues faced by the management team when dealing with change, the introduction of quality assurance measures and compliance. These are all areas of work that need to be well managed and are key to meeting the nine Core Ethical Principles of Practice within the GDC Standards for the Dental Team as well as passing a CQC inspection.

An introduction to business planning, SMART objectives and problem solving.
Gaining team ‘buy-in’
Where are you now? Where would you like to be? Would you stand up to the scrutiny of the CQC?
To conclude, this section will discuss strategic business planning and gaining staff ‘buy-in’ to support the greater business picture. It will also look at how the executive role in delegates’ practices would stand up to the scrutiny of the CQC and meet their Well-led KLOE requirements.
